I personally suspect that if he was taking his meds properly and not drinking he'd be able to manage his temper better not to mention his mid-life panic. Sadly one of the problems with bi-polar illness is that when most people take their meds they feel much better, often even fine. This leads them to think they are cured and they stop taking their meds. Then their illness takes over their lives and creates lots of wreckage and sometimes death. It's an awful cycle. I've seen a number of people go through it. Mel just has the great misfortune to have to live his life in the public eye. It was great when it was great but now it's not so great. Oh well. What price fame eh? I expect that Miss Thang had/has some questionable motives but seriously...that was not so hard to see coming now was it? Mel's untreated alcoholism and bi-polar disease are ruining his life and if he doesn't get some help soon it end his life. It would be a shame for him to go out in that fashion. But as you said, he wouldn't be the first artist/actor to suffer from booze and being crazy. P.S. THIS is a great example of why I NEVER EVER want to meet actors whose work I enjoy. Ever.
